Hi,

I'm Annabel. I'm a UK registered dietitian now living in Mallorca.

I worked for 15 years for the wonderful NHS in teaching hospitals in both London and Brighton across a range of specialties including renal disease, gastroenterology, ICU and diabetes and have a real passion for supporting those with gestational diabetes.

My reason for writing this blog is that the world of nutrition is difficult to navigate.

Food nourishes us in so many ways and eating can bring us together like few other activities can, but a  fear of getting it 'wrong' may come to rule our lives. Our thinking becomes binary; It's either 'good for me' or 'bad'.

I believe that with a lot less judgment and more curiosity we can sit more comfortably in the 'I'm doing just fine' area and celebrate food for the wonderful thing it is.

This blog combines my love of science and food with a desire to tackle the sense of exclusiveness and moral judgment which, in my view, seems to permeate much of the nutrition world. We don't need to buy expensive 'superfoods' and, unless we have a restricted diet or disease which places us at risk of malnutrition, we don't need to focus on the micro-nutrient content of every meal in order to be healthy.  The pursuit of eating and lifestyle 'perfection' can be as damaging to our mental and physical health as can a total lack of focus. A balance, as unsexy as it sounds, seems to win in most research studies.

My blogs are written with honesty, evidence-based to the best of my knowledge and, I really hope, entertaining and thought-provoking.

I'd love to hear your comments, to know what confuses or frustrates you or to chat about possible collaborations.
